Sylvia D.G. Vega
President, Project Manager
Sylvia joined Mujer, Inc. as a general member in 2004,
after attending her first “Una Noche Romantica”

significant difference in one’s life as it has her own
and that of her two daughters. She understood that the
mission of Mujer, Inc. provided the potential to truly
make a difference in a young Latina’s life and after
joining Mujer, she became actively engaged in the
Project Mana Program. She has served as a Board of
Director, Treasurer, Vice President and President for
2010 and 2011. Sylvia currently works for the state of
Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System (AHCCCS) as

Cathy Telles
Communications Chair
Cathy Telles was born in Honolulu,
Hawaii. After high school, she left her native island of
Oahu and moved to Washington state. There, she graduated
with her Bachelor of Arts degree from Washington State
University. While in school, she found a love for the
Latin community. In college, not only did she get a
degree in Communications, she also had a second major of
Foreign Languages- Spanish. She studied abroad to
Ecuador and traveled to other countries, like Peru and
Bolivia. She became ingrained into the culture,
understanding the lives of women in Latin America and
that started her passion to become a part of that
community. She quickly got involved with many
organizations in college, but one that was very dear to
her was Mujeres Unidas. She got a taste of what it was
like to be a part of a wonderful community...one that
accepted her even when she's not a Latina.
Eventually, Cathy married a great
man, Paulo, who is a native Brazilian. They have been
married for almost 13 years and have a beautiful 5-year
old daughter. Cathy & her family moved to Phoenix in
July 2010 due to a job transfer. The first thing she
wanted to ensure was that her family was surrounded by
positive people. Naturally, the Latin community
came first to mind. Cathy became aware of Mujer, Inc
when DeVry University sponsored the Project Mana
meetings at their facility. Cathy is the Director of
Admissions for DeVry University and has been there for 8
years. She's been a leader in her industry and have
empowered many people while in her role as
Director. When Cathy met Sylvia, she knew she found a
great organization where she would be able to help women
in the Latin community.
DeVry University is a proud sponsor
of Mujer and with the addition of having Cathy as part
of our board, there will be additional support from
DeVry. She has a passion for empowering women,
especially women in the Latin community. She wants to be
the role model for her daughter, who is also a Latina.
She is excited about the new journey with Mujer and
looks forward to meeting many more wonderful women in
the community!
